Thistle School About Us   Home About Us   Gallery Music       The Thistle School of Scottish Country Dance is holding its twenty-sixth session to provide instruction in the correct techniques and manner of Scottish Country Dancing, the historic and contemporary social dancing of Scotland. The school is affiliated with the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS). Lees-McRae College provides essential accommodation in dormitories, classrooms, cafeteria, and the use of tennis courts and swimming lake. Thistle School was founded in 1980 by Ted and Marilyn Blaschke of Atlanta, Georgia, and Duard and Elizabeth Lee Barnes of Washington DC, and has been held annually, with the exception of the sabbatical year of 1993, on the campus of Lees-McRae College. INSTRUCTION The Regular Session of Scottish Country Dancing classes is open to adult students only (minimum age 18). Classes will be given on five levels, with emphasis on technique and footwork appropriate to the level of the dancer, as well as attention to the courtesies of the dance and insight into its history and traditions. Classes will be held each morning, and the School will combine for a teaching/social dancing session each evening. Afternoons will have scheduled informal sessions: video taped workshops for individual instruction; idea exchanges for demonstration programs; workshops for dance devisors; informal candidate tutoriing.
